Chalk Uplands and Wild Orchids |
| It is good to get to a space where the eye can
roam unhindered and see the horizon meet the sky. A place to experience this is
Ivinghoe Beacon which is part of the Chiltern hills [or Chalkland Downs], in the care of the National Trust.

During the month of June wild orchids grow there and other flowers which favour
that particular environment. Some time ago it was quite rare to see wild orchids
here, but they seem to be returning.
An area steeped in ancient history see link
English Heritage - Hillfort but it is also
popular for trail-walking, a good place to watch gliders, fly kites and model airplanes;
although the latter activity appears to be disapproved of by a notice at the foot of the Beacon.
